Company History

T & J Constructions Pty Ltd is a proud South Australian company which is owned and operated by John McMichael and family since 2007.

The company has grown significantly since then, growing from a staff of 7 to now employing 90 local South Australians supported by a new state of the art office and yard complex completed in 2020. Since 2008 T & J Constructions plant inventory has grown from 10 machines and trucks to over 100 pieces of modern plant and vehicles servicing a wide range of projects.

Since 2008, T & J Constructions has been involved in some of South Australia’s iconic projects such as Market to Riverbank, Bowden Redevelopment, Tonsley Village, St Kilda Adventure Playground and Royal Adelaide Showgrounds SE Development. These projects demonstrate the diversity of skill and expertise that has developed over the last decade and beyond.

T & J Constructions is proudly South Australian and our motto is Built for South Australians for South Australians and this encapsulates the passion we have for growing the South Australian Civil Industry. John McMichael served as an executive board member of the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) SA since 2018 to 2023. In May 2024, John was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Civil Contractors Federation SA.

Company Overview

T & J Constructions Pty Ltd is a mid-tier civil contractor that is an industry leader in delivering large urban regeneration projects, new sub-divisional developments as well as installing new services or replacing existing services in urban areas. T & J Constructions is SA Water, DPTI and Telstra prequalified, and works closely with other utility companies such as SA Power Networks and APA Gas.

T & J Constructions employs extensive contract and quality systems to ensure our jobs are carried out efficiently and professionally, with emphasis on safety and sustainability. Quality Project Management is a key deliverable for the organisation. Procurement of work is done via a tendering system and T & J Constructions is a preferred contractor for many developers and engineers in South Australia. T & J Constructions is third party certified for Safety ISO 45001, Quality ISO9001 and Environment ISO14001.

John McMichael

CEO

John has over 40 years’ experience in the Civil and Construction Industry and is well respected within the industry. John’s expertise is reflected to his involvement with some of South Australia's most iconic projects, including Market to Riverbank, Bowden Redevelopment, Tonsley Village, Fort Largs Development, St Kilda Adventure Playground, and the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds SE Development. His extensive project portfolio boasts the successful completion of around 400 projects with a combined value exceeding $300 million. John bought T&J Constructions in 2007 and has since built it into the high-functioning organisation T & J Constructions is today, worth more than thirty times its original value. John leads the direction of T & J Constructions by closely monitoring all processes and is continually searching for ways to improve what is already a highly successful operation.

Business Manager

Donna commenced with T & J Constructions in 2018 having been in the civil and rail industry since 2009 across areas such as HR, compliance, finance and procurement. Donna is passionate about improving business processes, building relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and in providing solutions to enable the people function to better support the strategic business objectives to foster further growth. Donna is a strong advocate for learning and development and in supporting Apprentices, Trainees and work programs that offer pathways to the civil industry. Donna has extensive experience in procurement and is integral in overseeing all company submissions from EOI’s, Tenders, Panel Member submissions and Prequalification and Accreditation documentation.

Erin joined T & J Constructions in 2012, after working for Tier 2 commercial builders and is a highly skilled Compliance Manager ensuring organisational adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies. Erin has a proven track record in developing and implementing compliance programs, conducting risk assessments, and leading audits to mitigate potential legal and financial risks. Erin is adept at navigating complex regulatory environments, fostering a culture of ethical practice, and providing strategic guidance to senior management. Erin has strong analytical skills, with a keen ability to interpret and apply regulations effectively, and exceptional communication skills for training and reporting.

Phil is a seasoned General Manager with 30 years of comprehensive experience in the civil construction industry, overseeing projects from inception to completion. Expertise in project management, strategic planning, and operational leadership, with a proven ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Phil is skilled in managing cross-functional teams, optimizing resource allocation, and implementing efficient construction processes. Phil is adept at navigating regulatory requirements, fostering client relationships, and driving business growth through innovative solutions and meticulous attention to detail.

Tony is a dedicated Superintendent with 30 years of hands-on experience in managing and overseeing civil construction projects. Tony expertise extends to coordinating daily operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and driving project efficiency. Tony has a proven ability to lead construction teams, manage subcontractors, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met. Tony has a strong background in project scheduling, quality control, and problem-solving, with a focus on delivering high-quality results within budget and on time.
