Bentham Streetscape Upgrade was the next progressive stage of the Market to Riverbank project for the City of Adelaide. Works saw the street transformed to one level acting as a “shared space” for pedestrians and vehicles, with the installation of flush kerbs, stormwater strip drains, exposed aggregate footpaths, trees and lighting.
PROJECT CHALLENGES
- Vast array of existing underground services including high voltage electrical, high pressure gas mains, NBN/ Telstra cables that served half the CBD, water main (new and redundant), as well as other live and redundant services
- Many clashes with existing services and the design – changes throughout construction
- Hydro-excavation was required for all excavations, which extended the duration of works considerably
- Large number of stakeholders to manage within the street, and the public walkways
- Traffic and Pedestrian management within the CBD
- Subcontractor availability
- Bespoke exposed aggregate concrete mix
KEY CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES
