DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Bentham Streetscape Upgrade was the next progressive stage of the Market to Riverbank project for the City of Adelaide. Works saw the street transformed to one level acting as a “shared space” for pedestrians and vehicles, with the installation of flush kerbs, stormwater strip drains, exposed aggregate footpaths, trees and lighting.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

  • Vast array of existing underground services including high voltage electrical, high pressure gas mains, NBN/ Telstra cables that served half the CBD, water main (new and redundant), as well as other live and redundant services
  • Many clashes with existing services and the design – changes throughout construction
  • Hydro-excavation was required for all excavations, which extended the duration of works considerably
  • Large number of stakeholders to manage within the street, and the public walkways
  • Traffic and Pedestrian management within the CBD
  • Subcontractor availability
  • Bespoke exposed aggregate concrete mix

reports to all stakeholders on project progress
