A precursor to the subdivision of Walpole Road. Before the construction of roads and services, it was necessary to raise the entire surface level of the area to combat ongoing street flooding. General earthworks were carried out under level 1 supervision including excavation to natural soil and using material from other T & J construction site stockpiles as block fill to raise block pads to design surface levels. Redundant overhead wires and stobie poles were also removed, along with the decommissioning of all wells onsite. A number of water mains were found to contain asbestos and needed to be removed and replaced during the construction period.
During the earthworks the client decided to extend the project to include nearby areas to increase the amount of blocks to build on. This required the supply, transport, and spread of an additional 53,000 tonnes of fill, again imported from stockpiles at existing sites, increasing the contract value by $300,000.
